Remote Impacts from El Niño and La Niña on Climate Variables and Major Crops Production in Coastal Bangladesh

چکیده
El Niño and La Niña Southern Oscillation (ENSO) are major drivers that affect climatic variables in many countries. Therefore, ENSO mediated variation factors have significant consequences for crop production. We studied variations temperature rainfall the five coastal districts of Bangladesh during 1951–2017, impacts on crops production were analyzed using growing degree day (GDD) index. Statistical analyses performed different parameters relation to events locations. Results indicate had influence monthly, seasonal annual amounts (p < 0.05). Specifically, maximum under phases higher Kharif-I Kharif-II seasons than neutral years. In contrast, minimum was years Rabi season. Averaged across stations, mean 0.5 0.23 °C compared Rainfall Niña. These changes variably changed GDD locations thus, growth duration yield. this study provides a general understanding agriculture Bangladesh.

Percolation Phase Transition of Surface Air Temperature Networks under Attacks of El Niño/La Niña
In this study, sea surface air temperature over the Pacific is constructed as a network, and the influences of sea surface temperature anomaly in the tropical central eastern Pacific (El Niño/La Niña) are regarded as a kind of natural attack on the network. The results show that El Niño/La Niña leads an abrupt percolation phase transition on the climate networks from stable to unstable or metas...
متن کاملImpacts of El Niño Southern Oscillation and Indian Ocean Dipole on dengue incidence in Bangladesh
Dengue dynamics are driven by complex interactions between hosts, vectors and viruses that are influenced by environmental and climatic factors. Several studies examined the role of El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) in dengue incidence. However, the role of Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), a coupled ocean atmosphere phenomenon in the Indian Ocean, which controls the summer monsoon rainfall in the I...
متن کاملContinental-scale partitioning of fire emissions during the 1997 to 2001 El Niño/La Niña period.
During the 1997 to 1998 El Niño, drought conditions triggered widespread increases in fire activity, releasing CH4 and CO2 to the atmosphere. We evaluated the contribution of fires from different continents to variability in these greenhouse gases from 1997 to 2001, using satellite-based estimates of fire activity, biogeochemical modeling, and an inverse analysis of atmospheric CO anomalies. Du...
متن کاملA strong summer phytoplankton bloom southeast of Vietnam in 2007, a transitional year from El Niño to La Niña
Summer upwelling occurs frequently off the southeast Vietnam coast in the western South China Sea (SCS), where summer phytoplankton blooms generally appear during June-August. In this study, we investigate inter-annual variation of Ekman pumping and offshore transport, and its modulation on summer blooms southeast of Vietnam. The results indicate that there are low intensities of summer blooms ...
متن کاملCalifornia Niño/Niña
The present study shows the existence of intrinsic coastal air-sea coupled phenomenon in the coastal ocean off Baja California and California in boreal summer for the first time. It contributes significantly to the interannual sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies there. An initial decrease/increase in the equatorward alongshore surface winds weakens/strengthens the coastal upwelling and rais...
